Welcome to JVAC

JVAC is a non-profit all-volunteer medical service aiming to provide emergency responders 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While JVAC was started by members of the Jewish community, service is provided at no cost to all who need it, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.  Our mission is to improve medical outcomes and save lives by enhancing pre-hospital care through supplementing existing emergency medical transport services.

JVAC bases its operating model on leading edge volunteer emergency medical services developed in Israel and elsewhere around the world. These pioneer developers realized that in emergency situations, where every second counts, access to immediate care can mean the difference between life and death. They created wide-reaching networks of community-based volunteer first responders able to provide critical life sustaining patient care until an ambulance arrives. It is a two-pronged approach calling for near simultaneous dispatching of local volunteer responders and professional ambulance services.

Our role is to work to stabilize patients until fire/rescue professionals arrive and then transfer care to them. JVAC is not an ambulance service and will not provide transport.

We actively seek volunteers to expand our coverage area.  We welcome all who can help. Men. women, religious, secular, and people of all faiths. As our sages teach: Anyone who saves a life saves the world. We need responders, dispatchers, and administrative support team members.

Our responders are radio dispatched. We have several Advanced Life Sport Vehicles licensed and approved by the State of Florida. All our Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, and Physicians are state or nationally certified and are provided with lifesaving equipment.

Our operating model has proven successful for the following reasons:

To save lives
The model JVAC follows has saved many lives in the areas where it is used because its responders are local and live and work where the patients are. Ultimately, JVAC responders will be in our schools, houses of worship, businesses, etc. and can quickly stabilize patients until professional medical emergency resources arrive on the scene.
To provide the best possible care
JVAC responders and dispatchers approach each call with fresh enthusiasm. They bring a sense of urgency and compassion that is unparalleled because their patients are also their friends, family, and neighbors.
To activate the emergency medical system
JVAC may also be called when community members hesitate to dial 911 due to uncertainty if medical attention is necessary or are reluctant to call because they are underinsured or uninsured. A quick assessment by a JVAC first responder may encourage the patient to seek definitive care sooner than they would have otherwise. Better medical outcomes are usually a result of faster initial care.
To promote sensitivity and understanding
JVAC members are trained in both emergency medicine and familiar with Jewish law, with an understanding of the unique needs of the observant community. They are also sensitive to a broad range of cultural considerations and can direct patients to go to the hospital when they may not otherwise. For instance, a JVAC member’s explanation of the severity of a patient’s symptoms may alleviate fear of violating the Sabbath.
